Considering the bedroom is where we spend most of our time (averaging around 25 years by the time we reach 75), why not embrace gen zen over millennial madness?
Here are some R'n'R vibes you should seriously consider to up those Zzzs.
1. Create a sleep sanctuary
Curate the sights, sounds and smells around you for optimal relaxation. According to Silentnight's sleep expert Dr Nerina Ramlakhan, "the first step is to declutter and tidy up which means ensuring that work and the laundry basket are firmly out of sight." And add some lavender, ylang ylang or vanilla essential oils on your bedding for an extra layer of calm.
2. Breathe clean and stay cool
Avoid feeling uncomfortable, sniffy and itchy at home (thanks to pesky airborne pollutants) with an air purifier. And, get one that also acts as a fan like the Dyson Pure Cool™. According to Casper co-founder, Constantin Eis, the body's core temperature drops during deep sleep, so feeling too warm may prevent that essential deep sleep from happening.

3. Wear a sleep mask
According to scientific studies, any light filtering through curtains can stop us falling into a deep sleep - so block it all out with a sleep mask (and while you're at it, invest in a cute mask like this one from Bybi.)
4. Banish blue light
"Our energy tends to run in 60-90 minute cycles and the cycle just before we go to bed is key to getting a good night's sleep," reveals Dr Nerina. "When light levels drop in the evening, our circadian timer switches on and stimulates the production of the sleep hormone melatonin. However, the use of tech before bed disrupts this natural process." Avoid feeling wired at bedtime by leaving your phone in the living room OK?
5. Decorate your bedroom right
According to Wayfair's resident style advisor, Nadia McCowan Hill, paint shades like lilac and grey create a soothing atmosphere. And Feng Shui consultant and wellness coach Alexandra Lees says light blues and pale greens will also create a calm space. Time for a DIY weekend?

6. Add some nature
Aleedawaty Abas, Bedrooms Sales Leader at IKEA UK & Ireland tells us: "Incorporating plants into the bedroom is an easy way to create a calm oasis while adding some natural colour. It has also been proven that plants provide us with a huge psychological boost as we have an innate need to be connected with nature, so the greener the plants, the better."
7. Listen to white noise
"If you're a sensitive sleeper, then you may benefit from white noise from an app or a fan," Dr Nerina tells us. And, handily, an air purifier and fan like Dyson Pure Cool™ has numerous settings whether you like to hear your fan (or not.)
8. Ditch the synthetic fabrics
According to Tielle Love Luxury, polycotton sheets can make you itch and overheat. Chloe Cunningham from Health is Wealth agrees: "Polyester is a derivative of both crude oil and plastic, so polycotton traps heat and also aggravates skin conditions such as eczema." So, seeing as cotton is clearly the way to go for a more breathable option, you might as well go organic. Himanshi Rastogi, founder of Ara Living, comments that organic cotton "is much softer and comfortable to sleep in," and as it hasn't been produced using poisonous chemicals (not only harmful to our health but to the workers who produce the materials and the wider eco-system), you can give yourself a green pat on the back, too. Whatever you choose, just make sure to wash your sheets at 60°C to keep those dust mites at bay.
